Wayne Rooney Retires From International Football

England’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney announced on Wednesday he is retiring from international football with immediate effect, despite England manager Gareth Southgate telling him he had earned a recall.

The 31-year-old — scorer of 53 goals in 119 appearances for his country — told Southgate of his decision during a phone conversation.
“Having already thought long and hard, I told Gareth that I had now decided to retire for good from international football,” said Rooney in a statement sent to Press Association Sport.
In his statement explaining his decision to retire from international football, Rooney said: “One of my very few regrets is not to have been part of a successful England tournament side.

“Hopefully the exciting players Gareth is bringing through can take that ambition further and I hope everyone will get behind the team. One day the dream will come true and I look forward to being there as a fan – or in any capacity.”

JAMB To Build 5,000 Capacity CBT Centre In Ogun

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said that the Computer Based Test Centre being built in Abeokuta, will ease the pressure on candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations in Ogun, Lagos and other Southwest States.

He said this shortly after the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, laid the foundation of the building estimated to gulp N1bn, at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

When completed, the building, which will be funded by the JAMB and the National Communications Commission, would seat 5,000 candidates.

Oloyede explained that 36 per cent of the candidates who register and sit for the UTME every year come from Ogun (17 per cent) and Lagos states (19 per cent) respectively, hence the need to have a mega CBT centre in Abeokuta that would cater for the population.

He said this would make the process of registration and conduct of the examination seamless for the candidates. The JAMB registrar, who said the centre would be a10-storey building, added that it would sit 15,000 candidates per day.

He said, “The Federal Government directed that the NCC should construct two CBT centres in the North and Southern parts of Nigeria. I applied for a centre for Ogun State and it was granted. The Ogun State Government graciously allocated this expanse of land to JAMB.

“Our intention is to have a mega CBT centre in Lagos State but considering the space we have here, we went back to the drawing board and decided that it should be sited in Abeokuta. It will serve the entire South-West states.”

He further stated that similar centres were being constructed in Bauchi (Bauchi State) and Owerri (Imo State), among others.

Oloyede, who commended Amosun for allocating the land to JAMB for the centre, also lauded the recent return of the post-UTME screening test to the universities by the Federal Ministry of Education.

He said this “is the standard practice even in the United Kingdom and other countries.”

Rugggedman Releases His Own Version of Buhari’s Speech

Nigerian Musician Rugggedman has just released his own version of president muhammadu buhari’s speech he gave a couple of days ago.

Read below:

Fellow Nigerians, I thank you all for your prayers, messages, visits and most especially your patience.

I know it has not been easy but God be praised we are all alive to see today.
I know and hear the VP has been doing a great job, so great that I feared he would take my job from me (laughs).
I am glad to be back home and I am ready to hit the ground running.
I have a few things i will like to start with and they are ….
1. For obvious reasons i will make sure Nigerian hospitals are renovated, upgraded and new ones built so that we do not need to go abroad for health care and fund other country’s economy.
Infact Nigerian hospitals from henceforth will be so up to standard that the Queen of England will come here for medical care.
2. I will ensure doctors, nurses, teachers and our forces salaries are increased and paid on time, because these people i mentioned play a huge role in any country’s progress.
3. I will ensure that all closed schools will be ‘re opened with immediate effect, so that all the true leaders of tomorrow will stop seeing prostitution, cyber crime (yahoo) and other type of fast money schemes as the only way to survive.
(MAKE SURE ON THE 2ND AND 3RD OF SEPTEMBER YOU ARE AT TROY LOUNGE BESIDE ORIENTAL HOTEL LEKKI FOR RUGGEDMANS RUGGED PREMIER LEAGUE.)
4. I will ensure that all looters found guilty, will be prosecuted and jailed accordingly to deter others who have any plans to embezzle the Nations funds.
5. I will ensure that our aged citizens get their pensions paid immediately, because they worked hard for our dear country Nigeria.
6. I will ensure that the minimum wage is increased.
7. Please no unnecessary public holiday celebrations because of my return. Don’t waste tax payers money.
8. I will ensure that any group or groups that are trying to cause chaos in our beloved country will be dealt with accordingly. Be you from the North, East ,West or South.
We will meet with and discuss issues bothering any group and by Gods grace find lasting solutions to them.
9. I will ensure that no man or woman who is an ex convict or who has been involved in any case of embezzlement, will be given a political ticket to run for any office. You can not give the lion a goat to look after.
10. We will look into reducing the ridiculous salaries and benefits government officials are getting. Those monies will go a long way in helping our economy.
11. I will ensure that any officer that is guilty of unlawfully harrassing, assaulting or arresting a Nigerian citizen will be severely and publicly dealt with and dismissed. You are to protect the citizens and not molest them.
12. I see and read all the social media comments aimed at me. Both the good and the bad and I understand your grievances.
The same way I understand the grieviances of those clamouring for me to return or resign.
Social media is like the tongue. The same tongue that spits venom at you today, can be used to praise you to high heavens tomorrow.
I am here to get the latter.
That is why last but not the least, I will like to apologise to my great citizens of Nigeria for the silence while I was away. It was due to personal reasons. I apologise and I am back to work and bring the very needed change you voted me into office for.
Let us work.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We Didn’t Ban Olamide’s “Wo” Song”- NBC Denies Media Rumors

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has refuted widespread media reports that it has banned five Nigerian songs having tagged them as “Not to be Broadcasted.”

Recall that on Tuesday, the Commission released a list, saying it has banned the five songs from being aired across the Nigerian airwaves.

The songs, reportedly banned by NBC are Olamide‘s “Wo” and “Wavy Level“; Davido‘s “Fall” and “If (Remix)“; and 9ice’s “Living Things.”

In a sit down chat with SIGNAL on Tuesday, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada, the NBC’s Head of Public Affairs said she was not aware of any such list emanating from the NBC.

“First of all, the NBC does not ban songs. We only insist that broadcasters exercise a sense of responsibility in the kind of content they allow to go on air. So even if the NBC has placed such a restriction on any of these songs, it does not constitute a ban.

They can still be played at nightclubs, streamed on the Internet, played at home and on people’s mobile devices. But I am not aware of the NBC releasing any list banning or putting a restriction on any of those five songs. It is also possible that one of our regional offices advised stations under their jurisdiction about these songs and it is now being misinterpreted as a ban.

Mrs. Jimada said;
“If you look at the report, you would know there was something fishy about it because the NBC is the National Broadcasting Commission and not a “Corporation” as being reported by the media outlets disseminating the news.”

Timaya: Biography, Albums and What He Is Up To Lately

Timaya: Biography, Albums and What He Is Up To Lately

Timaya: Biography, Albums and What He Is Up To Lately

Timaya is a brand. A brand that took Inetimi less than 5 years to turn into a worldwide phenomenon. Ask anybody, including most of his die-hard fans about Inetimi Alfred Odon, you are likely to get a blank stare that screams, ‘Who da f..k is that?‘

But that is the real name of the singer and songwriter whose songs blazed through Nigeria like a wildfire in Harmattan. His hits songs became national anthems among the young and old.

Songs like ‘Bu.m Bu.m‘, ‘Sanko‘, ‘Dem Mama‘, ‘Timaya‘ completely dominated the airwaves at a time. One needs to be at his concerts to see how the relentless artiste is adored by fans.

EARLY LIFE

Timaya was born into a large family. He was the last child in a family of 15 children. There is a bit of confusion about his real age.

Some sources say he was born on the 29th of November, 1977. Other sources put his date of birth as 15th August, 1980. There is no confusion about his place of birth though. He spent most of his young life in Port Harcourt where he was born.

Young Initimi went to Assemblies of God Nursery and Primary School in Port Harcourt. He proceeded to Nkpolu Oroworukwo for his secondary education.

It was there the sparks (that would later turn into raging flames) of his affinity for music and the stage started to fly. He was known to sneak out at night to attend music show and concerts.

Though his father was a banker and mother a trader, he had to supplement the family income by hawking plantain on the streets of Port Harcourt. This was an experience he captured in the song ‘Plantain Boy‘.

Perhaps because he couldn’t concentrate on his education while in Port Harcourt, he was sent to Lagos with two elder siblings. It was there he completed his secondary education at Ikeja Grammar School.

The Dem Mama Soldier’s final stint with education came after graduation from high-school. He went back home to study Banking and Finance at the Rivers State College of Arts and Science.

His desire to follow his father’s footsteps as a banker didn’t work out. His poor performance meant he had to leave the school after just one semester. He went back to Lagos.

MUSIC CAREER

I. THE BEGINNING

Most of the world first got to hear about Timaya after the monster hit ‘Dem Mama’ was released in 2006. The song was a true story about the destruction of his community in Bayelsa State by Nigerian soldiers in 1999.

His popular title, Egberi Papa 1 (meaning Chief Town Crier) was given to him because of the injustice he sang about in Dem Mama.

However, long before hitting the big time with Dem Mama, Timaya worked with Eedris Abdul Kareem as a backup singer. He hung out with Eedris for three years and the experience had a big influence on his career.

He then left Eedris when he felt the time was ripe to start his career as a solo artist. He began by collaborating with other aspiring artists.

His first appearance in a music video was while he was working with the rap group UDX. Sadly, the video was not released.

II. K-SOLO AND TIMAYA

Timaya met his big break when he crossed path with K-Solo, the popular singer and producer, at a studio in Oshodi, Lagos.

This is how it happened. While he was performing at a talent show, Basorge Tariah Junior was really impressed by what he saw. So the entertainment guru took the Timaya to the studio in Oshodi.

The plan was to have them polish and help produce his songs. After hearing a capella version of Dem Mama, K-Solo was so impressed he decided to produce it.

The song was released in 2006. And the rest is history in the Nigeria’s music hall of fame.

The track was a monster hit instantly around the country.

III. ALBUMS AND HIT SONGS

After the success of Dem Mama, the partnership between K-Solo continued as the producer decided to handle Timaya’s first album, True Story.

The album, released in 2007, which also included the hit Dem Mama, is adjudged by some to be Timaya’s best.

Other albums followed in quick succession. They included,

>> Gift and Grace, 2008

>> De Rebirth, 2010

>> LLNP, Long Life N Prosperity, 2011

>> Upgrade, 2012

>> Epiphany, 2014

Several massive hits came from those albums. They include tracks like, Ogologoma, Timaya, Plantain Boy, I Don Blow, Yankulu Ya, Bum Bum, $exy Ladies, Sanko, Bow Down, and Who Born You, etc.

SINGLES SINCE 2014:

After the release of Epiphany in 2014, Timaya has concentrated on producing singles. Some of these singles were in collaboration with notable Nigerian artists like Flavor, who featured in ‘Money’ (2016).

Other singles released since then include Bang Bang, I like the Way, Some More, Ukwu, and I Concur.

His latest single hit and video, ‘Telli Person’, featured superstars Phyno and Olamide.

AWARDS

With the release of successful albums and singles, the nominations and awards came rolling in.

For instance, in the Headies Awards, he has collected the following

>> 2008 Best Reggae/Dance Hall Album for True Story

>> 2009 Best Reggae/Dance Hall Album for Gift and France

>> 2010 Best Collaboration for Korokoro featuring Keefe

And in the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, he won the "2010 Indigenous Artist of the Year Award".

International recognition came to him in 2011. He was appointed a Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP).

PERSONAL LIFE

Though a very public person, Timaya’s personal life is largely kept out of the news. At one time though, he was r0mantically linked with actress Empress Njamah.

However, the love of his life seemed to be the actress Barbara Nwokolo. She is the mother of his two daughters, Emmanuella born in 2012, and Grace born 3 years later.

The world is still waiting for him to make an honest lady out of Barbara Nwokolo.

JAMB Introduces Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) For 2017/2018 Admission

JAMB Introduces Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) For 2017/2018 Admission

JAMB Introduces Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) For 2017/2018 Admission

Report from the ongoing JAMB policy meeting indicates that JAMB has introduced the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) which is geared towards ensuring quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process.

According to a particiP@nt, the new policy is expected to make provision for a ‘market place’ in the JAMB portal where institutions can go and ‘request for students in Nigeria who score their cut off points.’

These institutions will write to JAMB to request for the students and also give them (students) three days to respond. Also, only three universities can request for a candidate if the policy is adopted.

The new policy is also expected to allow institutions in Nigeria peg their cut off point after meeting with their respective senates.

The new policy will also give the academic board or senate of an institution the power to ‘allocate percentages to JAMB, the school and O’level results as these will be calculated to get the students’ cut off marks for post-UTME.’

It was also learnt that JAMB wants to ensure there is a unified time for closing admission in all universities.
If the policy sails through, there will be a portal for admission which will be based on cut off points, quota system and catchment areas.

“The new system is such that institutions can only admit those who meet their cut off points,” an admission officer for a tertiary institution who was at the meeting said. “If a candidate does not meet the cut off, no matter whom he or she knows, such person cannot be admitted.”

The official said the system was demonstrated to all the attendees at Monday’s meeting, most of whom expressed satisfaction with it.

Also, the policy intends to make provisions for candidates to accept and reject any admission being offered to them.

The intended policy also looks out for candidates who are unable to go for National Youth Service, NYSC, because they do not have JAMB admission letters. This set of students could be asked to pay a fee, about N10,000 for regularisation and would be able to go for the youth service.

JAMB is expected to formally brief journalists on these new policies on Tuesday afternoon.“`

Nigerian Universities Set For More Crises As SSANU, NASU, NAT Meet On Strike

Three major non-academic staff unions will decide on Wednesday whether to join the strike by university lecturers.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU will meet with the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU, and the Non-Academic Technicians, NAT, on Wednesday in Abuja to decide on whether to join the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, an official told Sources.

Abdulsubur Salaam, the National Public Relations Officer of SSANU, said during an interview on Sunday that the associations have been “pushed to the wall” by the Nigerian government.

“The federal government has been discussing with the academics but we have been reaching out to them since before now and they have refused to heed to us,” Mr. Salaam said. The official listed some of the problems the unions had with the government.

“The issue of staff school that is being negotiated and we are not carried along was agreed on by the four unions in Nigerian varsities; our earned allowances have not been paid too and branches are really heaping pressure on us, especially on the staff school issue. “So full blown strike may be inevitable as at now. However, we would take that meeting on Wednesday and make a decision on this there.”

The ASUU had embarked on a nationwide strike last Monday over demands for improved funding of universities and welfare of lecturers. A meeting between the union and the Nigerian government last Thursday ended in a deadlock.

But an optimistic Adamu Adamu, the Education Minister, said the strike could be called off within one week.

This followed the conclusion of the combined policy meeting which had Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of higher institutions as well as other stake holders in attendance.

The minimum cut off marks for polytechnics and colleges of education was set at 100 while that of innovative enterprising institutes was set at 110.

It was also decided at the meeting that admission into first choice universities should close on October 15 while December 15, 2017 was set as the closing date for second choice admission by institutions.

Also, admissions into public degree awarding institutions for the 2017 UTME examination will end on January 15, 2018 while for private institutions, it ends on January 31, 2018.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede said institutions, with the decision, are not to go below the minimum cut-off points adopted at the meeting for admissions.

He called for the adoption of flexible cut-off marks for admission processes by higher institutions in the country.

According to him, “What JAMB has done is to recommend; We will only determine the minimum, whatever you determine as your admission cut-off mark is your decision.

“The Senate and academic boards of universities should be allowed to determine their cut-off marks.”He said.

“The admission process is now automated with direct involvement of the registrar of JAMB for final approval.

“We have agreed to regularize admissions that were done under the table this year. From next year we will not accept anything like that.”

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu stated that the cancellation on post-UTME was a mistake and said institutions are now at liberty to conduct, while adding that fee for the examination should not exceed N2000.

The Federal Government via the National Broadcasting Corporation, has made firm on its decision to ban Olamide’s anthem and hit track of the moment, Wo.

This is coming a few days after the Federal Ministry of Health had openly aired it displeasure regarding visuals to Wo (Read HERE). In its own opinion, the video portrays a bad message that encourages second-hand smoking.

However, NBC did not stop there as they also went further to ban four other hit tunes, Wavy Level by YBNL boss Olamide; FALL and IF by DMW boss, Davido and also Living Things by 9ice.

You would recall that Falz had earlier called out music acts who entertain lavish lifestyles and also fraud. In view of Falz comment, 9ice’s “Living Things”, was the major talking point.

Apparently, we would not be hearing these hit tunes on our air waves again.

It’s not over till it’s over! Olamide, 9ice and Davido have their fans who have in one way or the other show interest or go against NBC placing ban on their songs.

Come to think of it, these tracks are club banger and lovers of hit singles on the streets and clubs have found these songs lovely and chart topper. On the other hand, according to NBC, it’s all plain that these songs will do no good but more harm to our economy.

Remember Falz was against 9ice song, Living things? and now Olamide’s WO! advertising cigar in it’s official video. Oh No! we can’t continue to listen to anyhow songs. we never saw it coming that starboy wizkid will show interest in this new jam WO!.

Has NBC done a great harm to the artistes or favour to the economy by placing ban on these songs? Let’s hear from you guys. Issa hit singles but they are no more on the waves…!
